"Hello? Anyone there?"

I've wanted to get back into blogging for a long time now. I think about it every time something big happens or when I finish knitting another pair of socks.

I really really thought about it in November when everyone was doing that "post everyday" thing but of course I didn't.

Now is as good a time as any! So here it goes!

So much has been happening I don't know where to begin! I downloaded this nifty Blogger app for my iPad. It has terrible reviews so I'm not sure how long using it will last. If it gives me trouble uploading photos I will drop it...

I started this blog post over so many times...like I said, I don't even know where to begin. I'm not going to pretend that people really give a shit about what's going on in my life...most people don't and that's ok. I need to write some stuff down for myself....like a journal. Nothing weird or dramatic....just normal run of the mill stuff.....stuff that you'll probably find mind numbingly boring. Sorry in advance to anyone who I bore to death!

Nate. This post is about my second born. So much is going on with each kid, I'm going to post about them individually.

In September Nate started his senior year of high school....he's a SENIOR! I am still coming to terms with this and the school year is 1/2 over. When he began this year he knew he needed to put it in to high gear and pretty much get straight A's. His GPA wasn't as high as it needed to be (college) due to that whole "failed English his freshmen year and had to go to summer school" thing. He's a really smart kid...the freshmen English class was a project heavy class and Nate chose not to do any projects. He regrets it now and has said so many times over. He's actually gone into that freshmen English class and talked to the students and explained to them that the choices they make as freshmen WILL affect them as seniors.

Anyway, he made honor roll and his GPA went up the 1/10 of a point he needed. That was step one of his plan, get that GPA up. Step 2 was to kick ass on the SAT test. He accomplished that as well. He got a combined 1710 out of a possible 2400. I know that doesn't seem like a great score, given that perfect is 2400 but, the national average is only 1500. He scored above average on all 3 parts (there's 3 parts to the SAT test now...this is fairly new.)...we were ecstatic!

The third step to his plan was to choose where he might like to go to college and then to apply. This was probably the most stressful part of the year so far. It was his first real life decision. He chose to apply 7 schools. In November we sent out the applications.

Right before Christmas I got a call on my cell phone from a strange number. I sent it to voice mail not really thinking much of it. Boy oh boy, when I listened to that message I almost fainted! I knew he would be accepted to college...I really did...but, I was not expecting a personal phone call from the University of New Haven congratulating him on being accepted! Merry Christmas to the Spenglers! We were over the moon! In the message the admissions councilor eluded to a scholarship. He said Nate would be receiving a packet in the mail that would include his acceptance letter and any info about scholarships.

Right before New Years the packet came. And sure enough....they offered him a scholarship! A merit based scholarship...$12,500.00 a year for all 4 years! Happy New Year to the Spenglers! We are so proud of Nate...he worked really hard and it paid off!
